Prep Roundup: CL South blanks McHenry in girls soccer

The Crystal Lake South girls soccer team scored a goal in each half Thursday to defeat McHenry, 2-0, in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play in McHenry. 

Audrey Collard opened the scoring with an unassisted goal for South (11-2-2 overall, 4-0 FVC Valley). Alex Romano added a goal in the second half. Katherine Siavelis added an assist.

Jaclyn Przybylski made three saves for the shutout.

Gracie Holmes made seven saves for the Warriors (10-5, 2-1). 

Prairie Ridge 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves (9-6-1, 3-1) scored two goals in the first five minutes to win in FVC Valley play. Shannon Patinella and Larissa Dooley both scored and Brooke Laibly made three saves for the shutout.

Isabel Miranda made six saves for the Chargers (2-7-3, 0-3). 

CL Central 4, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, Sarah Benhart and Tatyana Gusakow each had a goal and an assist as the Tigers (7-4, 2-1) won in FVC Fox Division play. Riley Hudak and Brooke Flowers each added a goal for Central.

Claudia Lazar scored the lone goal for the Whip-Purs (3-9, 1-2). Kaila Higa had an assist and Kaila Kienzler made 13 saves. 


Rockford Christian Life 4, Alden-Hebron 2: At Hebron, the Giants (8-10, 2-5) lost in Northeastern Atlhetic Conference play. Cody Nelson was 3 for 4 with a run, and Alec O'Halleran added a double and an RBI. 

Lakes 5, CL South 4: At Lake Villa, the Gators (8-9) lost in nonconference play. Ryan Hetherington was 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI, and Tony Morrissey added a double and two RBIs to lead South. Garrett Bright had two hits and Casey Oliver added an RBI. 

Grayslake Central 6, Harvard 0: At Harvard, the Hornets (5-9) lost in nonconference play. Peyton Schneider and Justin Nolen each had a hit for Harvard. 


Alden-Hebron 18, Rockford Christian Life 0 (5 inn.): At Hebron, the Giants (8-9, 6-2 NAC) won big in conference play. Zoee Lagerhausen was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, a double and two RBIs, and Sharren Johnson was 2 for 2 with two RBis to lead Hebron. Kassandra Clauss (6-9, 4-2 NAC) got the win pitching five shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out nine. 

Dundee-Crown 8, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, Lauren Mercado was 4 for 4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Chargers (3-8-1) to the FVC crossover win. Megan Emerson had a double and two RBIs and Rachel Chlopek added a triple and two RBIs. Lauren Girard got the win pitching a complete-game shutout. She struck out 10. 

Samantha Baker was 2 for 4 for the Blue Streaks (3-12).

St. Edward 6, Marian Central 0: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes (12-10, 6-4 SCC) were shut out in SCC play. Hannah O'Hagan and Jackie Chmiel each went 2 for 3 for Marian Central. 


Rocket Relays: At Richmond, Hampshire finished in second place with 87 points. Richmond-Burton was third with 75, Marengo was fifth with 58, and Marian Central was sixth with 56. The host Rockets won the 3,200-meter relay (8:34.65) with Ryan Garrett, Ben Gardner, James Kaht and Greg Arther. 

Hampshire picked up wins in the 1,600 relay and the high hurdles relay. Daniel Tuzak, Alex Solomon, Andrew Pederson and Will Hempel were a part of the high hurdles team. 


Rocket Relays: At Richmond, Hampshire swept the field relay events. The Whip-Purs won the triple jump and the high jump. Hampshire won the meet with 100 points. 

Richmond-Burton was second with 88 points, and Marengo was third with 81. Marian Central was fifth with 54. 


Hoffman Estates 14, McHenry 1: At Hoffman Estates, Sammi Lindgren picked up the only victory for the Warriors (5-14), at No. 4 singles, 21-12, 21-17.


Cary-Grove 16, Jacobs 5: At Cary, Ian Houston scored four goals, and Alec Johnson and Jake Ladewig each added three for the Trojans in an FVC win. Brian Ta scored three goals for the Golden Eagles.
