Maddie Solka, a sophomore at Cary-Grove, won two events at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Eastern National Championships over the weekend in Bradenton, Fla.

Solka, competing with Crystal Lake Gymnastics Training Center, won the floor exercise at 9.5 and the balance beam at 9.35. Her all-around score of 36.95 was fourth.

“She had a great meet,” CLGTC owner and coach Lee Battaglia said. “She fell on her [uneven] bars routine or she would have been all-around champion.”

Solka competes with the Prairie Ridge co-op team that Battaglia coaches in the high school season. Most of those same girls then compete with CLGTC for the club season when high school is finished. Prairie Ridge was second in the IHSA Girls Gymnastics State Meet this year.

Huntley sophomore Kelsey Boos, also competing with CLGTC, scored 9.3 on the uneven bars to finish fifth nationally.

Other CLGTC coaches who help with the team are Vladimir Gogoladze, Lisa Rumford and Ben Hardy.
