Former Woodstock girls basketball coach Marty Hammond is awaiting board approval to be hired for the same position at Alden-Hebron.

It appears Marty Hammond is heading home in a swap of coaches.

Pending school board approval, Alden-Hebron will hire former Woodstock coach Marty Hammond as its new girls basketball coach. Hammond graduated from Alden-Hebron and used to coach softball at A-H.

Hammond will replace Jen Nichols-Hogle, who was hired by Woodstock to fill Hammond's former position after the school chose to not renew his contract in March.

The Alden-Hebron School District 19 board holds its next meeting May 20. The board was supposed to meet Tuesday, however, that meeting was canceled because there weren't many items on the agenda. A-H athletic director John Lalor confirmed Monday night that pending confirmation by the board, Hammond will be the Giants' new girls basketball coach.

Hammond said Monday he doesn't want to "put the cart before the horse" or take anything for granted and is waiting for it to be officially approved by the board in two weeks. Hammond isn't worrying about it until he gets board approval.

Hammond compiled a 75-122 record during his seven seasons as the Blue Streaks' coach, which included leading the program to only its second regional title since 1990 this past season.
