WOODSTOCK – Two tobacco retailers sold tobacco to a minor during a recent compliance check.

Gas Cap Fuels, 401 S. Eastwood Drive, Woodstock, and Marathon Gas, 1199 S. Eastwood Drive, Woodstock, were found to be in violation of the law prohibiting sale of tobacco to minors, according to a release from the Woodstock Police Department.

With help from the McHenry County Health Department, the Woodstock Police Department checked 28 retailers Wednesday, May 7, resulting in the two violations.

Store employees from both retailers were issued municipal code violation citations and must appear administrative hearing dates of June 12 at Woodstock City Hall.

The City of Woodstock educates local tobacco retailers on the minimum-age laws with help from a grant through the Illinois Liquor Control Commission's "Kids Can't Buy 'Em Here" Tobacco Enforcement Program.
