WAUCONDA – A Niles man has been charged with attempted murder for shooting a Wauconda resident in the chest during a Sunday home invasion.
John A. Nava, 19, of Niles, faces six Class X felony charges including attempted murder, three counts of home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm after being arrested Thursday in Fox River Grove by the U.S. Marshal Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit.
Each Class X felony charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
Nava and two co-conspirators entered a house on the 100 block of S. Main Street in Wauconda Sunday and shot the occupant one time in the chest, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release. Nava then fled and became a fugitive.
Wauconda Police Department requested assistance from the fugitive task force and apprehension unit Wednesday. At roughly 11:15 a.m. Thursday, officers from those units located Nava at the 1000 block of Northwest Highway in Fox River Grove.
Nava is being held on $500,000 bond at Lake County Jail. He also faces minor charges in McHenry County that stem from the arrest.
