Emanuel backs Hillary Clinton for president
CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is joining a super political action committee that's laying the groundwork for Hillary Clinton's potential 2016 presidential bid.
In a statement Friday, Ready for Hillary PAC says Emanuel will headline two Chicago fundraisers on June 5.
Emanuel says "Hillary is smart, she's determined, and most importantly she's a champion for the American people."
He says he saw "what an effective leader she was" during his time at the White House.
Emanuel was a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton. He also was chief of staff to President Barack Obama while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.
Clinton has said she will decide this year whether to seek the Democratic nomination.
Ready for Hillary already is raising money and building support for a bid.
