MARENGO – A Hampshire motorcyclist was thrown off his Harley Davidson on Thursday after he collided with a deer on the 11000 block of Route 23 south of Marengo.

Philip J. Casale, 56, was going north at about 6:05 p.m. on Route 23 when he collided with a deer in the roadway, the sheriff's office said. He was thrown off the motorcycle.

Casale, who was not wearing a helmet, was flown via Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He is in serious condition, the hospital said.

Route 23 was closed between Grossen and Carls roads for about four hours as investigators worked at the scene.

Neither alcohol nor speed are suspected as playing a role in the crash, according to the sheriff's office said.

The crash is still under investigation.
