Lake in the Hills approves union contract with non-sworn police personnel

LAKE IN THE HILLS – The Village Board on Thursday approved a new contract with its non-sworn police department personnel.

The three-year deal with the Metropolitan Alliance of Police Lake in the Hills Civilian Chapter 168, calls for 2 percent annual wage increases for the union's 19 members.

This contract covers dispatchers, records personnel and community service officers.

Among the other changes was adding a "pre-discharge" conference, which would be used before an employee is terminated, said Police Chief David Brey.

If there is a situation where an employee can possibly be fired, there would be a meeting with the chief, the employee, a union representative and an investigator to discuss and review the basis for discharge.

The employee would have a chance to present evidence, Brey said.

"It's another step the employees wanted," Brey said. "It's a protection for them."

The new contract expires at the end of April 2017.
