Boys Roundup: Woodstock wins on Austin Butts' walk-off HR in 12th

Austin Butts hit a walk-off home run for Woodstock in the bottom of the 12th inning Saturday to defeat Wauconda, 10-9, in a nonconference game at Woodstock.

The Blue Streaks (8-11) scored a run in the 11th to keep the game going. Alex Ferguson also drove in four runs for Woodstock.

Woodstock North 8, CL Central 5: At Woodstock, the Thunder picked up their first Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win of the season. Jake Florito had two doubles, a triple and drove in four runs for Woodstock North (4-17 overall, 1-13 FVC Fox).

Matt Tegtmeier had two RBIs for the Tigers (5-18, 3-12).

Prairie Ridge 7, CL South 4: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves came back to tie the score with two runs in the seventh and then scored three in the eighth to beat the host Gators in the FVC Valley Division game. Prairie Ridge (14-14, 10-6 FVC Valley) got a big day from Austin Covers, who had three RBIs and pitched two scoreless innings in the win. Paul Wille and Casey Oliver had two hits each for the Gators (9-11, 6-8).

Johnsburg 5, Lakes 4: At Lake Villa, the Skyhawks came back to beat Lakes in a nonconference game. Colin Ridout was 3 for 3 with a home run and a walk for Johnsburg (11-11). Ridout also threw two perfect innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced.

Barrington 6, Dundee-Crown 5 (8 inn): At Barrington, the Chargers scored a run in the top of the eighth to take the lead but gave up two in the bottom half of the inning in a nonconference loss. Zach Girard had a double and a triple for D-C (13-12).

Grayslake Central 3, Hampshire 0: At Grayslake, the Whip-Purs managed one hit against Grayslake Central in an FVC Fox loss. Trey Schramm struck out three for Hampshire (9-14, 4-9).

Alden-Hebron 18, Earlville 0 (5 inn.): At Hebron, Alec O’Halleran threw a five-inning no-hitter in a nonconference game. O’Halleran struck out nine, as the only baserunner reached on an error. Cody Nelson homered and drove in four runs for A-H (10-11).

Marengo 6, Freeport 4: At Freeport, Justin Vogel picked up a win for the Indians, pitching five innings and striking out four. Ethan Walsweer had four hits and an RBI for Marengo (7-10) in the nonconference game.

Tennis

Grayslake Central 4, Cary-Grove 3: At Cary, the Trojans got a No. 3 singles win from Devin McDonough. C-G also got wins from Kyle Venet and Mitch Kedzior (No. 1 doubles) and Will Smith and Brandon Butler (No. 2 doubles).

Track and Field

Kane County Meet: At Streamwood, Dundee-Crown finished ninth with 40 points, behind first-place Kaneland (128). Malik Dunner won the 100 (11.0), and Austin White finished third in the 200 (22.66) in Friday's meet.

Northern Illinois Invitational: At Machesney Park, Crystal Lake South finished in third (66 points) behind winner Sycamore (101) and Hampshire had 21 points at the Northern Illinois Invitational. Kyle Hedge won discus (175-5) and got third in the shot put (53-10). Hampshire’s Will Hempel finished second in the 300 hurdles (41.63) at Friday's meet.

Bolingbrook Invitational: At Bolingbrook, Jacobs finished second (77 points) behind host Bolingbrook (95). Jacobs’ Josh Walker won the 100 (11.18) and 200 (22.65). The Golden Eagles also got a first-place finish from their 4x200 relay team of Nick Gierlak, Patrick Shannon, Bret Mooney and Walker.

Northeastern Athletic Conference Meet: At Mooseheart, Faith Lutheran finished with 19 points and Alden-Hebron finished with 17. Mooseheart won the meet with 139. Mike Dykstra finished second in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) and long jump (19-0) for Faith Lutheran. Alden-Hebron got a second-place finish from its 4x100 relay team of Nick Beck, Josh Johnson, June Norfleet, and Thomas Baldwin (48.86).

Genoa-Kingston Invitational: At Genoa, Harvard finished second (157 points) behind host and meet winner Genoa-Kingston (173.5). Harvard won all four relays. Harvard’s David Anaya won the 800 (2:08.16), and Christian Kramer won the 400 (52.56). Hampshire did not score any points.

DeKalb Invitational: At DeKalb, Woodstock North finished third (84 points) behind DeKalb (170) and Joliet West (116). Woodstock North’s Cody Kupsik won the high jump (5-10) and finished third in the 300 hurdles (45.31). Sergio Rodriguez won the 800 (2:04.32) for the Thunder.

Water Polo

Vernon Hills Invitational: McHenry defeated Latin, 9-8, in the third-place match at the six team invitational. The Warriors also won, 11-10, against Vernon Hills and lost, 8-6, to Conant. Matt Peck led the Warriors with 13 goals and Kevin Braun added five.

Boys Lacrosse

Evanston 6, Cary-Grove 2: At Cary, Ian Houston and Eric Lindberg scored goals for C-G in a loss. 

Bass Fishing

State Tournament: At Carlyle Lake, Huntley’s bass fishing team finished 47th at state and caught one fish over the two-day tournament. The Red Raiders’ second boat of Tyler Husch, Zac Colten and Ricky Raclawski caught the only fish for Huntley, weighing in at 3 3/16 pounds. Huntley also qualified another boat that was comprised of Mike Lowry, Garrett Koeppier, and Cole Paar Fusser.

Moline took first place with 26 1/2 pounds.
