Cary Park District to host track and field event

The Cary Park District is scheduled to host a local track and field meet where competitors will have the opportunity to advance to a state or national meet.

The meet is part of Hershey’s National Track and Field Games and is open to youngsters 9 to 14 years old.

This would be the third year the Cary Park District participates in the event. In 2012 it had 57 youngsters. In 2013 it had 33 youngsters, said park district Director of Communications and Marketing Katie Hughes.

According to a park district news release, events will include the 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 1,600-meter run, a 4x100 relay, standing long jump and softball throw. Winners of the meet may be eligible to move to a state meet or the national finals in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The meet will be from noon to 3 p.m. June 1 at Cary -Grove High School. Registration is free, but the deadline to sign up is May 30.
