Thanks, RSVP volunteers

To the Editor:

May is a busy month for volunteering, and in recognition of Senior Corps Week, which is May 19-23, this is a perfect time to say thank you to all members of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers, all of whom are members of the Senior Corps family.

The program sponsor is Senior Services Associates Inc., and has been since 1987. This wonderful group of volunteers makes a difference all year long. During the last fiscal year, over 700 active volunteers who are over age 55 in McHenry, Kane and Kendall counties provided 123,263 hours of service to your community.

These giving folks offered rides and delivered meals to some of our most vulnerable citizens, stood out in the cold manning a monthly veterans food distribution, gave thousands of hours to area food pantries, stocking shelves, and graciously helping those in need.

RSVP volunteers help various agencies with outreach efforts; putting together mailings, newspapers, packets and program brochures; educating the public on important programming. Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.

If you are interested in joining this active group, call me at 815-344-3555 or email me at ddanitz@seniorservicesassoc.org. You'll be glad you did.
