Franks deserves praise

To the Editor:

The scandal erupting around Gov. Pat Quinn’s so called anti-violence program is par for the course for Cook County Democrats.

It was a nakedly political attempt on the part of the governor to win the 2010 election and, after reading the audits, I am convinced more will be uncovered by the committee investigating this matter.

I think state Rep. Jack Franks’ independence deserves to be highlighted here as well. Rep. Franks passed the legislation in 2013 that eliminated the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority and encouraged the audits that are guiding the investigations into this sleazy program.

It is another example of Franks putting the interests of Illinoisans before any partisan concerns. This is deplorably rare in today’s political climate, and we should value this quality above all when choosing our leaders in November.
