Prep Roundup: Jacobs beats York

The Jacobs baseball team scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat York 5-1 in nonconference play in Elmhurst Wednesday night.

Jake Jemmi hit a pinch-hit three-run double in the eighth to give the Golden Eagles (19-11) their first lead of the game. Jemmi then came in and pitched a perfect eighth to close out the win.

Tim Hubner got the win for Jacobs pitching seven innings, allowing five hits, one run and striking out six. 

Ryan Sargent was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Grant Kale added three hits. 

Crystal Lake South 7, Elgin 4: At Crystal Lake, the Gators (12-11) won in nonconference play. Ryan Hetherington had a double and two RBIs and Nick Van Witzenburg added two RBIs. Paul Wille was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Johnsburg 6, Hampshire 5: At Hampshire, the Skyhawks (15-11, 9-6 FVC) went out to a 6-1 lead then held on for the FVC win. Kevin Kordik was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Mike Pritts added two hits and two runs scored. Collin Ridout (9-0) got the win, pitching five innings, allowing one run, three hits and striking out seven.

Michael Merchut was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Whip-Purs (10-15, 4-10 FVC). 

Richmond-Burton 6, Marengo 1: At Richmond, Brian Wells (5-1) pitched seven innings, allowing just one run, three hits, while striking out nine to earn the BNC East Division win. The Rockets (13-9, 9-3 BNC East) scored five runs in the fifth on four Marengo errors.

Justin Vogel had an RBI and Koty Kissack was 1 for 3 with a run and a stolen base for the Indians (8-11, 4-7 BNC East).

Harvard 21, Hiawatha 1 (5 inn.): At Kirkland, Matt Piechocki hit a grand slam to lead the Hornets (8-12, in the nonconference win. Jacob Grivna had a double and four RBIs and Joe Quinn was 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. 

BOYS TENNIS

Johnsburg 5, Woodstock 2: At Woodstock, the Skyhawks swept the doubles matches to win in FVC Fox play. Niko DeStephano won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1, and Joe Nikolai and Chris Schmidt won at No. 1 doubles.

Chris Cross won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, for the Blue Streaks.

SOFTBALL

Prairie Ridge 10, Dundee-Crown 0 (5 Inn.): At Crystal Lake, Michelle O'Keefe hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the Wolves (17-7, 6-3 FVC Valley) to the FVC Valley Division win. Maddie Drain had a double and three RBIs and Claire Bowman added a double and two RBIs.

Mandy Moore was 1 for 3 with a double for the Chargers (3-13-1, 0-9 FVC Valley). 

Alden-Hebron 14, Harvard 3: At Harvard, Hannah Behrens hit two home runs, a double and had four RBIs to lead the Giants (14-11) to the nonconference win. Zoee Lagerhausen was 3 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs and Emily Webber added two doubles and three RBIs. 

Crystal Lake Central 5, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, Megan Mahaffy pitched seven innings allowing two hits and one run while striking out 12 to lead the Tigers (13-9, 6-3 FVC Fox) to the FVC Fox win. Mahaffy was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Savannah Frank added an RBI. 

Ellie Lapi was 1 for 3 with a stolen base and a run for the Whip-Purs (16-11, 9-1 FVC Fox). 

WATER POLO

Barrington 11, McHenry 7: At Mundelein, Matt Peck scored four goals for the Warriors in a Mundelein Sectional quarterfinal loss.
