Food pantry thanks

Published: Saturday, May 17, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

The board of directors of Grafton Food Pantry would like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers that assisted in the May 10 Stamp Out Hunger event that benefited the clients of Grafton Food Pantry.

This was the first time that this effort was conducted in Huntley. The postal workers and volunteers worked side by side, tirelessly sorting, packing and transporting the donations.

Special thanks and recognition for the extraordinary efforts of Postmaster Derek Strissel, Kathy Schneiter, Mike Montes, Tom Poznanski, Scott Dornhecker, Mary Hardy and the Huntley Park District. Without their commitment and hard work in coordinating this event, many local families would not have adequate food during the next several months.

We also would like to extend our appreciation to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry for sharing its expertise.

To our friends and neighbors, we thank you for your generosity in donating over 6,000 pounds of food. Every month, an average of almost 600 individuals receive food assistance from our pantry. For every dollar donated, we have the buying power of $4. Your donations count.

To all of the individuals who took the time to participate by volunteering or donating food items, you have truly made a difference in helping to end hunger in our community.
