Prep Roundup: Harvard's Piechocki throws no-hitter

Harvard’s Matt Piechocki threw a no-hitter, striking out nine, in an 11-0, six-inning Big Northern Conference East Division win against Marengo (8-13 overall, 4-9 BNC East) on Thursday. 

Justin Nolen doubled and drove in three runs for the Hornets (10-12, 4-8), and Tate Miller doubled and drove in two runs. Piechocki doubled in a run in the fifth inning. 

James Musgrove did not get a hit but drove in two runs, one on a sacrifice fly in the second. 

Grant 6, CL Central 5: At Crystal Lake, Rob Aunan was 2 of 4 with a double for the Tigers (5-20) in a nonconference loss. 


Metea Valley Sectional: At Aurora, Dundee-Crown’s Kayla Lawrence qualified for state with a second-place finish in the 100 high hurdles (15.48). 

Lawrence also place third in the 200 (26.93) and fifth in the long jump (16-7). Also for D-C, Emily Michalski was fifth in the high jump (5-1).


Big Northern Conference Meet: At Byron, Richmond-Burton’s James Kaht won the 1,600 meters (4:31.27) and was a member of the winning 4x800 relay (8:07.22) with Ryan Garrett, Ben Gardner and Greg Arther.

Marengo’s Jarrell Jackson won the 100 (10.91), and Harvard’s Christian Kramer was third in the 400 (52.22). 

Burtlington Central won the meet with 150 points. R-B was seventh with 28, Harvard (27) was ninth and Marengo (25) was 10th.  


Cary-Grove 12, Dundee-Crown 6: At Carpentersville, Grace Pilz doubled and drove in two runs for the Trojans (13-10, 6-4) in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. 

Casey Weeks hit three homers for the Chargers, and Megan Emerson also homered. 

CL Central 16, Johnsburg 7: At Crystal Lake, Savanah Frank homered, drove in five runs and went 5 of 5 for the Tigers in an FVC Fox win. Also for Central (14-9, 7-3), Kelly Iwamoto homered and drove in four runs.

Carly Wilson had two hits for the Skyhawks (4-19, 2-9). 


Huntley 7, Jacobs 0: At Huntley, Jessica Helm scored two goals, and Taryn Jakubowski had a goal and three assists in an FVC Valley win for the Red Raiders (14-6, 4-2). 

Grayslake North 6, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, Chelsea Olson scored the Knights’ first hat trick in program history in an FVC Fox win. 

Kaila Kienzler made nine saves for the Whip-Purs (4-12-1, 1-5). 


Huntley 12, Fremd 1: At Palatine, Robert Koson scored four goals for the Red Raiders (15-6), and Collin Fischer added three in a nonconference win. 

Cary-Grove 4, Palatine 0: At Palatine, the Trojans (10-5) got goals from Charlie McDade, Ian Houston, Justin Blair and Alec Johnson in a nonconference win. Also for C-G, Dylan Cost made five saves.
