CL South baseball knocks off Cary-Grove

Josh Smith pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run and striking out four for Crystal Lake South as they beat Cary-Grove, 3-2, in the FVC Valley Division game at Cary. The game was moved to Cary because of field conditions, but had the Gators (13-11, 7-8 FVC Valley) as the home team.

Ryan Hetherington had two hits, including the eventual game-winning RBI on a single in the fourth inning. Wyatt Mascarella drove in two runs for the Trojans (18-10, 11-5), who drop a game behind the first-place spot of Jacobs and Huntley in the Valley Division.

Jacobs 1, Dundee-Crown 0 (8 inn): At Algonquin, Reilly Peltier struck out 10 batters over six innings for Jacobs (21-11, 13-4 FVC Valley). Grant Kale drove in the only run of the game in the eighth inning for Jacobs, as it knocked off Dundee-Crown (12-16, 8-8), and held its spot at the top of the Valley Division.

Ahren Ludwig struck out seven in 7 2/3 innings pitched for D-C.

Hampshire 11, Woodstock North 0 (5 inn): At Woodstock, the Whip-Purs scored five runs in the first inning as they routed Woodstock North in the FVC Fox Division matchup. Tyler Schutt and Nick Mohlman had two hits and three RBIs each for Hampshire (11-15, 5-10 FVC Fox). Jake Fiorito had a hit for Woodstock North (4-18, 1-14).

Alden-Hebron 6, Durand 5: At Hebron, Cody Nelson had a triple and drove in three runs for the Giants (15-13) in the nonconference win. Andrew Tieman got the win, allowing no earned runs in three innings pitched.

Softball

Crystal Lake South 9. Huntley 2: At Crystal Lake, Sam McLean had three hits and four RBIs for the Gators (14-10, 6-5 FVC Valley) in the FVC Valley Division game. Erin Yazel also drove in two runs for South.

Brittany Koss had an RBI double and Katelyn Behrens had two hits for the Red Raiders (15-12, 6-4). 

Grant 8, Richmond-Burton 2, At Fox Lake, the Rockets allowed a run in each inning, as they fell to Grant in the nonconference game. Katie Kroll had a hit and drove in a run for R-B (15-8).

Alden-Hebron 12, Woodstock 6: At Hebron, the Giants scored eight runs in the fifth inning to lead them past Woodstock in the nonconference matchup. Rachel Rosio had a grand slam and drove in six runs for A-H (15-11).

Jessie Karafa took the loss for Woodstock (5-22), striking out four over six innings.

Girls Soccer

Huntley 4, Grayslake North 0: At Huntley, the Red Raiders cruised to a win in the FVC crossover match against Grayslake North. The game was moved to Huntley because of field conditions in Grayslake. Deanna Hecht had two second-half goals, and Taryn Jakubowski added three assists for Huntley.

Boys Tennis

Hampshire 4, Woodstock 3: At Woodstock, Hampshire's Elisha Hougland won his No. 1 singles match without losing a game. The Whip-Purs also got wins from their No. 1 doubles pair of Jacobs' Dahlberg and Chad West, who won 6-2, 6-0.

Chris Cross got the No. 2 singles win for the Blue Streaks in the FVC match.
