CRYSTAL LAKE – An Omaha, Neb.-based company wants to build a gas station at the southeast corner of Rakow and Pyott roads, the site of L&V Distributors Inc.

Buchanan Energy is seeking permission from the City of Crystal Lake to build a 20-pump gas station, 7,054-square-foot convenience store and an automatic car wash at 8108 Pyott Road. It would be called Bucky’s Convenience Center.

Buchanan Energy, which bought 81 Chicago-area gas stations and convenience stores from Exxon Mobil in 2010, has an agreement to buy the property where beer and beverage distributor L&V Distributors Inc. has a 28,000-square-foot building.

L&V Distributors Inc.’s Don Lewis Jr. said the property deal depends on city approval. L&V Distributors has not yet decided what it would do if the property is sold, he said. The company has been serving McHenry County since 1967, according to its Facebook page.

Buchanan Energy is asking the Crystal Lake City Council on Tuesday for a waiver to use an outside firm to perform a traffic study for the project, city planner Elizabeth Maxwell said.

On Wednesday, the company plans to appear before the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission for an introductory meeting and to ask for a public hearing June 4 regarding its request for a special-use permit and several variations to build the gas station. The commission is expected to consider the company’s request at the June 4 meeting, Maxwell said
