McHENRY – The McHenry Public Library will be closed until further notice due to a water main break.

The break occurred Sunday morning on the south side of the building, according to a news release from the library. There was some standing water, which was removed by a restoration company and fans are running to dry out the area.

Repairs to the broken pipe could take several days, according to library officials.

All programs for the week have been cancelled.

Staff members will be manning the phones from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday to take program registrations for future events and handle some other business. Patrons can also register for programs at the library's online Events Calendar at www.mchenrylibrary.org

While the drive-up book drop will remain open, due dates will be moved back accordingly. Items on hold will also be held until the library reopens.

"The library regrets this inconvenience to our patrons, but we're dealing with a 40-plus-year-old building and all of the maintenance/repair issues that come with it," Executive Director Jim Scholtz said in the release.

For the latest updates and to find out when the library will reopen, go to the library's website, www.mchenrylibrary.org, or call 815-385-0036.
