Jack Glosson stole home in the top of the seventh inning to give the McHenry baseball team a 6-5 win over Crystal Lake South in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play in Crystal Lake.
Glosson scored two runs, including the one that broke a 5-5 tie. The Gators scored four runs in the first inning, but the Warriors (18-10 overall, 11-7 FVC Valley) came back in the third for five runs to take their first lead of the game.
Ryan Grannemann had a double and two RBIs, and Cody Freund added two hits and an RBI for McHenry. Bobby Miller picked up the win, pitching seven innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out six.
Paul Wille had two runs scored and RBI, and Ryan Hetherington was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Gators (14-12, 8-9).
Prairie Ridge 10, Hampshire 3: At Trout Park in Elgin, Marcus Sargeant, Austin Covers, Kyle Buresch and Dustin Thelander drove in two runs apiece to lead the Wolves to the FVC crossover victory. Cal Aldridge added a home run for Prairie Ridge (17-16, 13-6 FVC Valley).
Colin Gogoel hit a home run and Michael Kruse had a double and an RBI for the Whip-Purs (12-16, 6-11 FVC Fox).
Grayslake Central 12, Woodstock North 5 (6 inn., rain): At Grayslake, the Thunder (4-20, 1-16) lost in a rain-shortened FVC Fox game. Josh Jandron was 1 for 3 with two runs scored, and Johnny Winzenried added an RBI.
Huntley 10, Dundee-Crown 0 (5 inn.): At Huntley, Mark Skonieczny was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Red Raiders (21-7-1, 13-4) to the FVC Valley win. Jake Ciskowski had a triple and two RBIs, and Eric Luecht pitched five innings, allowing two hits and striking out nine, for the win.
Brett Johnson was 2 for 2 for the Chargers (12-16, 8-8).
Richmond-Burton 5, Sycamore 4: At Sycamore, Drake Talles' two-out, two-run single capped a five-run fifth inning for the Rockets (16-10) in their nonconference victory. Brett Sheahan went 2 for 3 for R-B, and Trevor Anderson (1-1) pitched a complete-game victory.
Marian Central 8, Guerin Prep 0: At River Grove, Maddie Peters (5-6) pitched a no-hitter to lead the Hurricanes (17-10, 11-4 ) to the Suburban Christian Conference victory. Peters struck out 10 and walked five. Mic Faunce was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and a home run, and Jackie Chmiel was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Prairie Ridge 16, Dundee-Crown 2 (5 inn.): At Carpentersville, the Wolves (19-8, 7-3) scored seven runs in the first inning and eight runs in the fifth to win in FVC Valley play. Kate Didier had two doubles and five RBIs, and Emily Doomis was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs.
Hampshire 4, CL Central 1: At Crystal Lake, the Whip-Purs (19-11, 10-1) scored four runs in the first inning to win in FVC Fox play. Haley Widmayer (17-9) got the win, pitching seven innings and allowing a run on three hits and striking out six. Peyton DeChant and Ellie Lapi each had two hits and an RBI.
Monica Menas was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Tigers (14-10, 7-4).
McHenry 10, CL South 0: At Crystal Lake, Kristin Koepke pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Warriors (17-6, 9-2) to the FVC Valley win. Koepke allowed four hits while striking out eight. Carly Mattson and Hannah Crowley each had two RBIs for McHenry.
Sam McLean had two hits for the Gators (14-11, 6-6).
Huntley 1-6, Cary-Grove 3-2: At Huntley, the Red Raiders (17-14, 7-5) got home runs from Megan Larson, Haley Spannraft and Megan Baczewski in Game 2 to split an FVC Valley doubleheader. Huntley took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning.
Brianne Prank hit a home run for the Trojans (14-12, 7-5) and Caitlyn Adams added a double and an RBI.
In a game completed from April 28, the Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win in FVC Valley play. Adams was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Woodstock North 7, Johnsburg 2: At Johnsburg, the Thunder (5-19, 2-9) won in FVC Fox play. Woodstock North scored six runs in the fifth to pull away. Sierra Meiners was 2 for 3, and Laura Nicks and Rachael Vela were each 2 for 4.
Meghan Cronin was 1 for 3 for the Skyhawks (4-20, 2-10).
Fox Valley Conference Tournament: With very few exceptions, the top seeds advanced to the semifinals to be played Tuesday at Crystal Lake and Cary-Grove. Unseeded Joe Nikolai and Chris Schmidt of Johnsburg scored the biggest upset, defeating Hampshire’s Jake Dahlberg and Chad West, the No. 3 seed, in the first round at No. 1 doubles.
Schmidt and Nikolai were one of three unseeded doubles teams to advance to the semifinals. Also advancing were Jacobs’ Lucas Bieneman and Patrick Murphy at No. 4 doubles and Grayslake North’s Nick Rice and Scott Wonsil at No. 3 doubles. All of the seeds advanced in singles competition.
CL South 16, Lemont 15 (OT): At Lemont, Andy Weber scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Gators in the first round of the IHSLA tournament. South, seeded 34th, advances to the second round, where it will play No. 2 seed Naperville Central at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Naperville.
