New to the area, Molly Hillig is bringing a Latin Social Club scene to Crystal Lake.

The Cary woman will host the club’s first dance, called a social, at 7 p.m. June 17 at Old Towne Hall, 54 Brink St., Crystal Lake, with plans to host dances every Thursday through July 10.

No partner is necessary. The event costs $20. The dance will take place from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by a social from 8 to 8:30 p.m.

“Social dancing is the best way to learn to communicate without words, bring people together and truly prevent disease,” said Hillig, a professional salsa dancer who moved to the area from Chicago.

“I feel it is my calling to help people cross culturally connect and live more fulfilled lives through social dance connection.”

The idea behind the club is to start small and eventually form a local performance team, she said.

Also a registered nurse, human potential coach and motivational women’s empowerment retreat facilitator, Hillig began dancing as a child and has studied and performed Latin dance in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil.
