Ernesto Navarro-Mendoza is charged by Woodstock police with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and traveling to meet a minor.

WOODSTOCK – A North Carolina man was charged Tuesday with criminal sexual abuse after police said he met a teen girl from Woodstock online and traveled multiple times to see her.

Ernesto Navarro-Mendoza, 26, of 3117 Allenwood Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina, was charged with three counts of criminal sexual abuse and one count of traveling to meet a minor, Woodstock police announced in a news release.

Police were called to the 900 block of Wheeler Street at 4:30 a.m. Monday after reports of a suspicious subject. They interviewed the girl, who is between 13 and 17 years old, and her father before detaining the suspicious subject, Navarro-Mendoza, police said.

Detectives learned that Navarro-Mendoza traveled from North Carolina to Woodstock three times since February to meet the girl after the two met online and began a relationship, police said.

Navarro-Mendoza remains in the McHenry County Jail on $80,000 bond. He has a McHenry County court date Thursday.
