To the Editor:
Twice a year, the Marine Corps League McHenry County Detachment 1009 conducts a flag day fundraiser to raise funds for various veteran causes within McHenry County and the state of Illinois.
Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps by promoting the ideals of American freedom and democracy, voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines, Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen, former Marines and Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen, and their widows and orphans.
The McHenry County Detachment wishes to express our thanks to the businesses that graciously allowed us to collect donations in April. Our thanks go to Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market in Algonquin; Walmart locations in Crystal Lake, Harvard and Woodstock; and the Jewel-Osco and Joseph’s Marketplace in Crystal Lake.
The Detachment also extends our sincere gratitude to those who cheerfully donated to support the members of the U.S. Armed Forces – past and present. Through the generosity of all who contributed, the Marine Corps League has helped many veterans and their families.
The Marine Corps League is a veteran organization founded in 1923 and received its federal charter in 1937.
