Time capsule: Cary Country Club in 1924

Published: Sunday, May 25, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

In the spring, golfers thoughts turn to the greening of the links. A surprising number of courses are located in McHenry County. Of the 21 full-size active courses in the county, one of the oldest is Cary Country Club, which is shown as it looked when it opened as a five-hole course in 1924. The view looks south toward the Fox River from what is today’s ninth tee. Much has changed over the years, but the course remains very hilly. The property was bought from the Chicago and North Western Railway.
