MCC offers summer language courses

CRYSTAL LAKE – Learn a new language for job enhancement or just for fun this summer with classes offered by McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department.

The following classes are available:

• Spanish I: Focuses on beginners Spanish, including basic writing, speaking, pronunciation, listening, understanding and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. Students will use grammar, vocabulary and verbs in the most basic structure of the language.

The required book is “Spanish Is Fun Book 1: Lively Lessons for Beginners” by Amsco School Publications, third edition, ISBN: 9781567654646. Textbooks must be purchased on your own before the start of class and is not available in the MCC Bookstore.

This class is offered from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays, June 5 through July 17, in Room C118. Cost is $99. To register for this class, use course ID: NFL S05 007.

• Conversational Spanish: Anyone with an intermediate understanding of Spanish who wants to practice their conversation and listening skills, and study intermediate grammar concepts may consider this class. Grammar concepts will include the past, future and compound tenses.

The focus will be on speaking, pronunciation and communication in a friendly learning environment through the music, art and culture of Spanish-speaking countries and people.

The instructor will discuss what textbook is required at the first day of class. Class will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, June 2 through July 14, in Room A113. Cost is $99. Use course ID: NFL S07 008 when registering.

• Introduction to Italian: This class will focus on the basic aspects of Italian, including basic speaking, understanding, listening, writing and pronunciation. We’ll use grammar, vocabulary and verbs to understand the fundamental rules of the language. This course is great for those wishing to travel to Italy. 

The required book is “Italian Now,” by Marcel Danesi, Ph.D, second edition, ISBN: 9781438000060. Textbook must be purchased on your own before the start of class and is not available in the MCC Bookstore.

Class will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, June 3 through June 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Room A113. Cost is $119. Use course ID: NFL S28 07 to register for this class. To register, call the MCC Registration Office at 815-455-8588.
