Elgin man gets 11 years in prison for fatal crash

ST. CHARLES – An Elgin man accused of causing a fatal car crash while intoxicated was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

A passenger died in the high-speed rollover crash near Burlington in Kane County. Evidence showed the car was traveling at about 100 mph. Two other passengers were injured in the 2012 crash.

Prosecutors said 19-year-old Shannon D. Hill told the surviving passengers not to report the crash and then fled.

Hill was arrested later at a hospital. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said witnesses told authorities Hill had been drinking and smoking marijuana. Hill pleaded guilty to charges of failing to report an accident involving a death and reckless homicide.
