Quinn running mate says disappointed in budget
URBANA – The Democratic candidate for Illinois governor says he's disappointed with the budget that the state Legislature passed last week.
Paul Vallas spoke Sunday evening to about 160 Champaign County Democrats at Urbana's Laborer's Union Hall. The News-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1gYxjPu ) that Vallas criticized the new budget because it relies on more borrowing.
The former Chicago schools CEO is running with Democratic Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn. They face Republican businessman Bruce Rauner and his running mate, Evelyn Sanguinetti, an attorney and former Wheaton city council member.
Vallas called it "unfortunate" that the budget will require Illinois "to defer some obligations so that we're not paying down the bills like we had planned." He says he's bothered the state will fall back into bad budgeting practices.
