To the Editor:
I’m happy to see that McHenry County Democrats are pushing for a reduction in the size of the McHenry County Board. The Democrats will be able to make a strong case for better representation with 18 single-member districts.
The current setup of six districts, each with four members, dilutes the votes, allowing County Board members to hide within their safe constituencies. Voting for four in an election ensures the status quo, especially in election cycles with low voter turnouts.
It is my hope that the Democrats also will support putting the referendum on townships on the ballot. The time has come to reform. Taxpayers in McHenry County deserve a break, and, hopefully, will pay attention to those who are truly working in this direction.
