LAKEMOOR – A fire on Monday left about $9,500 in damage in a unit at a strip mall, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District said in a news release.

At 8:04 a.m., the fire district was called to 538 Herbert Road and found a fire in an end unit of the strip mall, the news release said.

A piece of machinery was on fire in the middle of the unit, the news release said. The fire was out within five minutes of crews arriving on scene, but thick black smoke had to be ventilated out of the building for 20 minutes.
