To the Editor:
This is a response to the Bob Anderson letter of June 4 in which his solution to township government status is letting voters decide the outcome through referendum. Please explain how less than one quarter of the eligible voters represent the “voice of the people.” Only 22 percent of McHenry County voters went to the poles in the last election, and that seems to be the norm.
We have a bigger problem in a representative democracy than whether or not all township governments should be eliminated.
My solution is to bring on a benign dictatorship. Those who don’t vote won’t even have to scramble for a plausible excuse for their lack of participation in the process. There won’t be a process nor will there be township government under this solution. Problem solved!
