Wake, funeral services set for former Crystal Lake fire chief

CRYSTAL LAKE – A wake for former Crystal Lake fire chief Harold Krecker will be held at Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Krecker, who died Saturday at 88 years old, was instrumental in transitioning the Crystal Lake Fire Department from a volunteer station to a 24-hour operation staffed by full-time and paid on-call personnel. He became the department's first full-time member and in 1965 was appointed chief where he served for 20 years.

He dedicated 34 years of service to the department before retiring in 1985.

The wake, located at 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., will include a fire department walk-through at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church on 178 McHenry Ave. in Crystal Lake. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
