To the Editor:
I usually write an ad hoc letter, but not this time.
First, I wish to second John Gelasi’s evaluation of our local VA service in McHenry and North Chicago (“Pleased with VA care,” June 5).
Second, I want to offer an enthusiastic endorsement of the pension solution presented by Steve Reick (“Defined contribution plan reform that’s needed,” June 5).
I hope that Mr. Reick realizes that, if elected, he will be a voice in the wilderness until we rid the Legislature of the scourge of Michael Madigan.
Then there is the quotation by Helen Walton prominently displayed on the wall overlooking the cash registers in a store owned by her family: “It’s not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.”
This comes from a billionaire who refuses to pay a living wage to those who generate her wealth. Her affluence is exceeded only by her hypocrisy.
