To the Editor:
In reference to your article regarding the Crystal Lake Basketball Association, how is this front page news?
I served on the board of directors for this league for over 10 years and never received any financial compensation. Neither did the other board members who gave of their time. Over the years, thousands of kids joined our program and were better for it – as athletes and as people. Today, I see these former participants and their families, and they express their thanks. Many times we asked for media coverage and were ignored. This seems much less newsworthy than families and kids who gave of their time selflessly.
The disagreement between Bob McIntyre and the leader of the Cary league is a known fact. Both organizations should be commended for their accomplishments.
I understand Mr. Citrano’s viewpoint if he was not paid and that McIntyre may have made a bad decision. This being said, I question the motives here. The rest of the story is that McIntyre was dedicated to these kids and the program for many years. That seems to be lost in all of this.
In the end, you’re right, Mr. Citrano. It is about the kids. Let’s not forget that.
