MCCD activities include fishing, bike rides

WOODSTOCK – Sunset bike roads, campfires and fishing are some of the activities lined up at McHenry County Conservation District sites this month.

All programs require prior registration. They include:

• Fishing Fun for Families: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at Lake Atwood Shelter in The Hollows Conservation Area, 3804 Route 14, Cary. The basics of baiting a hook, casting, parts of a pole, fishing safety and ethics, and fish identification will be covered, and activities will be ready for the youngest participants. Bait and some equipment will be provided. Fishing poles can be reserved upon registration. Participants 16 years of age and older must have a valid Illinois fishing license in order to fish. The program is free for county residents and $5 for non-residents. The registration deadline is June 17.

• Summer Sunsets Family Campfire: 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 27, at Marengo Ridge Conservation Area, 2411 N. Route 23, Marengo. This evening campfire program will include stories, songs, snacks and educational fun for the whole family. The program is free for county residents and $5 for non-residents. The registration deadline is June 23.

• Sunset Bike Ride: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at North Branch Conservation Area, 11500 North Keystone Road, Richmond. This leisurely three-mile bike ride will include stops along the way to explore the site and enjoy activities and activities. The program is free for county residents and $2 for non-residents. The registration deadline is June 24.
