In this era of continuous change and challenges for local businesses, the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Chamber of Commerce is taking a proactive stance to promote and provide value to members, assisting in their business success and the overall business health of the communities we serve.
The chamber is in the process of identifying additional opportunities to ensure it is seen by members and nonmembers alike as a partner in and a voice for community businesses.
In my last column, I wrote about an idea we were working on to nominate businesses to receive an award at our Annual Awards Dinner that occurs every January.
We are excited to announce our first Nominations Mixer. It will be from 5 to 8 p.m. June 18 at Port Edward Restaurant, 20 W. Algonquin Road, Algonquin. Attend to nominate and be nominated.
After arriving and checking in, you will receive voting tickets and will be able to vote for a business in six different categories. The categories this year are: New Business of the Year (new chamber member), Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Solo Owned/Home Business of the Year, Restaurant of the Year and Nonprofit Business of the Year.
Businesses that are nominated will be promoted all summer long at events and in online voting contests. The top three businesses from each category that receive the most votes will become our finalists and be announced at our Golf Outing Dinner on Sept. 22 at Golf Club of Illinois. Throughout the fall, the finalists will be promoted online, at events and especially at our Home and Business Expo on Nov. 8 at Jacobs High School. The voting will end at the end of the year and winners from each category will be announced at the Annual Awards Dinner on Jan. 31, 2015, at Boulder Ridge Country Club.
This is a great opportunity for chamber members to support one another and have fun together. I strongly believe that a chamber of commerce is all about the members and what they do for each other in promoting business, interacting with the community and educating each other on key issues.
When we all come together, we create excitement, energy and enthusiasm that inspires and motivates and, in turn, creates commerce. This is a great community to live in, do business in and be involved in. Don’t miss the chance to be nominated and to nominate your favorite business.
The first Nominations Mixer will include appetizers, a cash bar and live music by HiFi Superstar unplugged (Dave Rudin and Mike Paterson). The cost is $5. We thank Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital for sponsoring this event.
