Crystal Lake crash sends motorcyclist to hospital

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Schaumburg man was injured when a motorcycle and a dump truck collided Monday afternoon.

Andrzej Grygorowicz, of Schaumburg, was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry with what were believed to be injuries that were not life-threatening, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Route 31 and Route 176 at 1 p.m. for the accident.

The driver of the truck, which was facing south on Route 31 and making a left-hand turn onto Route 176, failed to yield to the northbound 2012 Yamaha motorcycle, the release said.

Leoncio Quezada, 59, of Wheeling – who was driving the 2000 Freightliner, six-wheeled dump truck – was uninjured. He was cited with failure to yield when turning left into an intersection.

Grygorowicz was wearing a helmet but suffered facial injuries, Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior said. Grygorowicz was cited with operating a vehicle without the proper classification of driver's license.

Traffic was backed up while crews worked. The area was cleared after about 30 minutes, according to the release.
