Two steps back

To the Editor:

Congratulations to the Northwest Herald. Your new and updated format is appreciated by this reader as a longtime subscriber.

While you took a step forward with your Sunday edition, I am sad to say you took two steps back with T.R. Kerth’s June 8 column.

Writing about snowbirds is fine and a good topic for lighthearted reading. When I encountered his use of the Lord’s name in vain and a four-letter word at the end of the column, I was taken aback. Did your proofreader fall asleep or has the Herald suddenly changed its attitude?

Hopefully, this was an oversight. I read three or four newspapers a day and have for years. I do not ever recall seeing profane language of any kind in any of those publications, unless it’s a direct quotation, especially taking Jesus’ name in vain.
