Ill. officials could rule on ballot measures

CHICAGO — The Illinois State Board of Elections could take up decisions related to two November ballot measures later in the day.

They meet Tuesday in Chicago.

One group wants to take political mapmaking responsibilities from lawmakers and give it to an independent commission, but is trying to prove it has enough valid signatures. "Yes for Independent Maps" is asking the panel to let it submit about 4,000 signatures for evidence. The group asked local election authorities for the names but didn't receive them before a deadline.

Also, preliminary counts show a proposal to lawmaker term limits has enough signatures. But election authorities must officially rule on a proposed constitutional amendment led by Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner. The group is called the "Committee for Legislative Reform and Term Limits."
