WOODSTOCK – The McHenry County Sheriff's Office was honored with a first-place award for its traffic enforcement efforts.

The Office will be recognized Aug. 20 at the annual Traffic Safety Challenge Awards Ceremony sponsored by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Committee.

They were awarded first place for departments with 101 to 250 sworn deputies.

Judges from around the state evaluated each applicant in six categories: policy and guidelines, training of officers, public information and education, officer and citizen recognition, enforcement activities, and effectiveness of efforts. Seat belts, DUIs and speed enforcement were reviewed within those six categories.

The ceremony will be held in Tinley Park.
