Don’t play race card

To the Editor:

In response to Donna Davis’ claim that the criticism the president receives is not from his lack of leadership, but in some way blames him for being black, being a Democrat and his failure to gain Republican support, this president was twice elected by the majority of people in this country, including the white middle class.

Take the administration’s recent handling of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl – along with a host of other unresolved issues that include the IRS, NSA and VA scandals and now the implosion of Iraq – and this administration continues to make poor decisions or none at all.

Recent criticism of the president has been mainly bipartisan. I couldn’t find anywhere where the Economist magazine gave the president a 90 percent economic rating. Wall Street has enjoyed a huge positive upswing in recent years. This, however, has not happened on Main Street. Just look at the empty storefronts in any shopping center in the country.

Since 2009, there are 1.8 million fewer people in the workforce despite an $800 billion stimulus.

I find that many people play the race card when they can’t defend the president’s poor leadership, inept decisions or lack of success.
