To the Editor:
I live in Union and there is a bike path between here and Marengo. There always has been a drainage ditch there, long before there was a bike path.
The bike path is maintained by McHenry County Conservation District; the ditch is on railroad property.
McHenry County came through and cut trees and undergrowth, shredded it and blew it over the fence into that drainage ditch. Shredded wood floats and will be carried along to plug things up.
Now, I have lived here for 27 years, and my house never has had water. So if or when this happens, is McHenry County to blame for filling the drainage ditch with shreddings when they could have put those shreddings on the area they were cutting to keep growth down?
