Two men were taken to the hospital on Monday after a head-on crash on Route 47 just south of Charles Road in unincorporated Greenwood Township, the McHenry Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

About 6 a.m., Roger D. Humphrey, 55, of Hebron, was driving a Toyota south on Route 47 when for unknown reasons crossed over into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Chevy Cruze driven by Julio C. Benitez, 39, of Woodstock, the sheriff's office said.

The Woodstock Fire Protection District took Humphrey and Benitez to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, where they are in fair condition. During the crash, both men were wearing seat belts and the airbags deployed, the sheriff's office said.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected in the crash, the sheriff's office said. The crash is still under investigation.

Traffic south of the intersection was diverted for four hours.
