Amazing triathlon

To the Editor:

Last Sunday, Crystal Lake was the host city for the Illinois Champion Triathlon at the Three Oaks Recreation Center. It was an amazing event, with about 400 athletes.

The triathlon was a fantastic event to watch. The lifeguards were lined up along the swimming portion in case of trouble. They were ready in case of any emergency. Only one athlete had to be rescued out of the lake. And the rescue was done very professionally.

The biking portion was well plotted out, with cones to give the bikers a safe, car-free zone in which to bike. The running portion was through the park on the trails.

This whole triathlon was a success for our community. It was the dedication of the Crystal Lake Fire Department, the Crystal Lake Police Department, and the many volunteers who helped make this event not only possible, but a huge achievement for our community.  Thank you to everyone who got up early on a Sunday morning to help at the event.

We are very lucky to have this event in our community and, hopefully, there will be many more triathlons in the future.
