Tobias Farina was born Monday morning on Interstate 90

MARENGO – Trevor and Beth Farina likely had the most eventful 20-minute drive they will ever experience Monday morning.

The Marengo couple raced down Route 20 to Interstate 90 in an attempt to make it to Sherman Hospital in Elgin before Beth gave birth to their third son. But having two sons already, the McHenry County College nursing student knew she was not going to make it.

""When I got onto 90 she told me I better hurry because the baby was coming," Trevor Farina said.

Trevor Farina called 911 and officers told him to pull over but his wife told him to keep going. While he thought he could make it, their new son Tobias was in his wife's lap wrapped in a blanket before he knew it.

The birth happened a little after 5:30 a.m. Monday.

Once they made it to the hospital, Trevor Farina said doctors and nurses were waiting for them and checked them in right away. Beth and Tobias Farnia were released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon healthy and happy.

Though he was terrified while he was driving, Trevor Farina is happy it all worked out.

"I'm happy with the way it happened," he said. "It obviously wasn't planned but we will have a story to tell this boy for the rest of his life."
