Our planet, Jennifer

To the Editor:

“Where else can we live?” asked 8-year-old Jennifer.

“We aren’t ready to travel to unknown planets. We’re stuck here.”

“Who’s in charge of our planet?”

“We are. We vote for people to pass laws to keep us safe.”

“Who are they?”

“Candidates and leaders.”

“How do you get the people to do the right thing?”

“Vote only for those who work to keep our environment safe.”

“This is my place, and it should not be ruined by anyone.”

House Republicans have the lowest score in the League of Conservation Voters’ National Environmental Scorecard study, from 17 percent in 2008 to 5 percent in 2013. This is Republican leadership with an insatiable appetite for attacking the environment and public health.

Dennis Anderson, 14th Congressional District candidate: “I will fight to protect the environment.”

He understands and sees uncontrolled destruction of clean air, water, land and food by dangerous chemicals for monetary interests.

“I’ll vote carefully, Jennifer, no one should ruin our planet.”
