CHICAGO – Authorities said Chicago police officers have been involved in five shootings since the start of the holiday weekend, including two where people died.
A male was fatally shot Saturday around 6:30 p.m. on the South Side. Police said he allegedly fit an offender’s description and pointed a gun at officers. Officers shot him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other fatality happened around 10 p.m. Friday. Officers were patrolling an area on the city’s northwest side and saw a man crossing the street with an object protruding from his waist band. He allegedly pointed a gun at an officer and the officer shot him. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Three others were injured Friday and Saturday.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shootings.
