Cullerton son charged with sexual battery in Tenn.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A son of Illinois Senate President John Cullerton has been charged with sexual battery after allegedly groping a woman in a Tennessee bar.

Carroll Cullerton, 26, was arrested Friday morning. Police responded at 3:49 a.m. after a woman told police that he touched her inappropriately, The Commercial Appeal reported.

The woman told WMC-TV that she had just gotten off work and Cullerton began dancing closely. She said she told him she was not comfortable and moved away, but Cullerton came up to her and unzipped her dress.

John Cullerton’s spokeswoman, Rikeesha Phelon, would not comment other than to say, “This incident is unrelated to state business or the office of the Senate President.”

A message left Sunday at the Cullerton residence in Chicago wasn’t immediately returned. It was unclear whether Carroll Cullerton has an attorney.

Carroll Cullerton posted $7,500 bond and was released, the newspaper reported. Cullerton is due back in court on Monday on a charge of sexual battery, WMC-TV said.
