Recipe lands Ill. girl White House dinner invite

PALATINE – A 12-year-old suburban Chicago girl has a dinner date at the White House with Michelle Obama.

Tess Boghossian of Palatine landed the invite with a soup recipe.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that she's one of 54 winners of the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge. It's part of the first lady's campaign against childhood obesity.

There were 1,500 entries.

The sixth-grader dubbed her dish Lincoln's Inaugural Soup. It includes quinoa, veggies, white beans and skinless chicken breast. A blend of spices and lemon juice gives it its kick.

She says she entered the contest for fun and didn't expect to be chosen, which she said, besides being "cool," is "a real honor."

The White House event, called the Kids' State Dinner, will be held July 18.
