BULL VALLEY – Police are warning against a "Green Dot" scam that a Bull Valley resident was targeted with this week.

A caller told the resident that she had won $1 million and a Mercedes-Benz and instructed her to buy a $300 Green Dot prepaid card and call a number for further instructions, according to a news release from the Bull Valley Police Department.

The name on the caller ID read "J.M. Kingston," and the woman was instructed to call 323-325-3940. She reported the call to the police.

The scam has occurred throughout the country, although variables like the alleged prize sometimes change, the release said.

Bull Valley police urge residents to be careful when any unknown callers are requesting money in any fashion.
