Police shoot, kill Missouri man in Granite City

GRANITE CITY – Police in southwestern Illinois' Granite City say officers have shot and killed a Missouri man who reportedly threatened them with a handgun.

Investigators did not immediately identify the 45-year-old man from the St. Louis suburb of St. Charles.

Police say the shooting happened when officers were dispatched shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday to a reported disturbance at a convenience store. Authorities say police confronted the man in his car.

The officers weren't injured.

Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation.
