Sentencing for MCSO sergeant continued to the fall
WOODSTOCK – The sentencing for a former McHenry County Sheriff's sergeant who admitted to sex crimes with a child has been continued again.
Gregory M. Pyle, 38, pleaded guilty in January to sex with a person under 12 years old. At that time, a sentencing hearing was set for April. It's twice been continued and is now set for federal court in Rockford on Sept. 17.
According to federal prosecutors, Pyle crossed state lines to have sex with a minor and distributed images of the sex acts over the Internet. Federal prosecutors called the sex acts "masochistic, sadistic and violent."
An additional charge of producing child pornography was dropped in exchange for his plea, and also spared the young boy from testifying at trial.
Pyle, formerly of Crystal Lake, faces a minimum of 30 years in prison up to a life sentence.
He was working at a McHenry County Sheriff's sergeant in January 2012, when he was arrested and charged with 10 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault for sex acts with a person under 13 years old.
Local charges are pending, and McHenry County prosecutors have said the state case will move forward once he's sentenced in federal court.
